Koushuhai Cup - Black
This series of porcelain cups was designed by a group of Arita potters in collaboration with local makers of shochu, a Japanese drink distilled from rice. Its unique three-legged shape enhances the scent and aroma of the beverage served in it, whether alcohol, tea or coffee.
The cup is hand-painted and each piece slightly differs from the others.
It is produced by the company Kihara based in Arita; a well known porcelain industrial area with a 400 year history.
Region: Kyūshū and Okinawa
This is Japan’s south-west region including the island of Kyūshū and the sub-tropical island chain of Okinawa. Kyūshū was an early centre of Japanese civilization, and offers many historic treasures, modern cities and volcanic natural beauty. It is home to the ports of Kagoshima, Nagasaki and Fukuoka, the porcelain manufacturing centre in Arita and the Tanegashima Space Center launch site.
