Tipu Pinch Pot
The Pinch Pots are hand-crafted using traditional techniques in the Indian town of Channapatna.
The area is known for producing colourful children's toys, evident in the playful form and hues of these pinch pots.
Made with locally sourced Hale Maara (ivory wood), each piece is turned on a lathe to achieve the desired form. Lac, a natural resin, is then pressed onto the wood while the heat and friction from the lathe melts the lac, allowing it to adhere beautifully.
The glossy orange and yellow finish is derived naturally from turmeric, Manjistaand indigo then polished with screw pine, a locally found fibrous leaf to achieve a glossy finish.
The collection utilises a closed-loop craft ecosystem that has been active for over two centuries, and all materials are locally sourced from regenerative trees. Each pinch pot has a vibrant orange body with indigo ring and is perfect for storing salt.
