Tipu Spice Jar

Our TIPU Spice Jar is perfect for storing all types of ground or whole spices. Made from borosilicate glass, the TIPU jar features a handcrafted wooden lid made using traditional techniques in the Indian town of Channapatna.Each lid is made from locally sourced Hale Maara (Ivory Wood) and carefully turned on a lathe to achieve the desired form. A natural resin called lac is pressed onto the wood while the heat and friction from the lathe melts the lac, allowing it to adhere beautifully.The lid's red, green and yellow hues are naturally derived from turmeric (yellow), manjistha (red), indigo (blue) and kanchi kum kum (orange) rendering them food safe. These are then polished using screwpine, a locally found fibrous leaf to achieve a glossy finish.The snug fitting lid ensures that spices are kept fresh. The glass jar (sans the lid) is dishwasher safe. Dimensions - dia 5.7cm x h 11.5cm
